Remembrance(Transcends Time #1) by Michelle Madow

Author: Michelle Madow
Pages: 150
Publisher: Dreamscape Publishing
Pub. Date: 7/27/11
Rating: 3.5/5

From Goodreads:

New Hampshire high school junior Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England ... but she doesn't know it yet.

Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie's school at the beginning of the year, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can't stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can't she seem to get him out of her mind?

Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, the pair of them soon find that fighting fate isn't going to be easy.

Tiffany's Thoughts:

Remembrance is a love story that transcends time literally!

The characters where realistic and fun. Lizzie is a sweetheart, with an amazing artistic ability. Drew's the big city boy who just moved into town, capturing everyone's attention. Even Lizzie, who has Jeremy. As problems arise, Lizzie starts to question her relationship, and some new found ability's.  As Drew and Lizzie become close, she soon discovers a past unlike any other.

I enjoyed the concept of  reincarnation, its something you don't read about often. But as I read into the book, I became rather disappointed. Remembrance only lingered on the topic and didn't truly focus on the past life aspect of the story. Or clued you in much, it more focuses on the present time period. But, I did enjoy what was revealed to us through out the story.

Remembrance still had its good points, it was a quick read and flowed evenly. Characters were realistic with believable problems. It had just the right amount of romance and drama to go around, with a straight forward style.

All in all Remembrance had its good and bad points. I enjoyed the reincarnation aspect of the story, and the references to Pride and Prejudice. Michelle has a great writing style that flows evenly.  I cant wait to see were the series goes.

Author Interview: Belle Whittington

First off, let me just say how much I appreciate Tiffany for having me over to her lovely blog for a cup of hot tea and a chat!

Interview Questions:

How did you come up with the idea for cicada?

That's a really good question!  There were actually a lot of little things that came together to form the idea for Cicada.  For instance, there really is a suspicious-looking building across from the drive-in.  And there really is a small forest that looks extremely spooky and haunted...especially at night!  And...there really is an old storage facility that has an odd number of bunnies living withing the confines of the chain-link surrounding the property. But it goes farther back than that!

Growing up in Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas, afforded me summers full of adventure with my friends.  I call on those adventures and memories a great deal for my YA stories. Cicada has a lot of the energy of those childhood adventures spun throughout.  One of them is something that actually happened to me when I was thirteen years old.  I was on one of my adventures in the woods with my dog, Dusty.  We made our way through the woods to a neighboring pasture and crawled through the barbed wire fence.  When we got to the top of one of the rolling hills in the grassy field, I realized I was standing in the middle of a giant circle imprinted in the pasture grass.  No one had ever told me about crop circles at that time in my life, so I just thought it was an odd occurrence that there was a strange circle in the tall grass.   Now that circle is forever memorialized in a YA novel, Cicada!

Being the observer that I am, I have passed these places and thought about that crop circle so often and wondered what it would be like for something extraordinary to happen at those places.
Then one summer day, I felt the need to write something.  It was nearly bulging out of my brain!  So I hopped into my car, opened the sun roof, and turned on some good music and drove around town for a little while.  When I passed the haunted wood, all the pieces came together, and I imagined the dark creature lunge into the haunted woods.  It was all downhill from there!

What plans do you have for Everett and Andrew?

Oh, yes!  Everett and Andrew continue to grow throughout the series.  I can't say too much about their futures without giving away spoilers, though.  However, they both have a very important roll in the storyline.  The question is: Will they both get out alive?

What is self-publishing like? Is it easier than regular publishing?

Self-publishing, or indie-publishing, takes a great deal of work and dedication.  An author really has to believe in his/her work in order to make a successful go at it.  It is neither easier nor harder than going the conventional publishing route.  Only different.  Whereas in conventional publishing, one pretty much has to have an agent in order to even become published, in indie-publishing one merely needs an excellent editor and book designer.

I've really enjoyed being an indie-author so far.  I think it's because not only do I believe my little book is a good one, but also because I've met some really awesome people so far!  For instance, you and I would probably have never met if I had been a conventionally published author.  And I'm very happy that we have met.  And I'm also very happy that I've met all the other awesome book bloggers and reviewers, too!

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on the two sequels to Cicada.  Firefly is the second in the trilogy, and I've included the Preface and the first couple of chapters of it at the end of Cicada.  I haven't yet named the third book. However, I do know how the series ends...and boy what an ending!

If you could do it all over again what would you change?

I wouldn't change a thing!  In fact, after I finish this trilogy, I'm going to do it all over again with a different story! :-)

Thanks so much for hosting me on your blog and giving me a chance to meet your lovely readers!  <3
