Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.
Tiffanys Thoughts:
Blood Red Road is a unique dystopian novel. That is written by Moira Young, who has quite a unique writing style. Not one quotation mark graces its pages, with many misspellings. It's written in Saba's dialect, but it was her strong and independent voice, lured me in. It took a little getting used to but, you hardly notice it because your so submerged into the storyline.
Saba is fierce and loyal, but she can be unlikable at times. For she is stubborn, and selfish. And thinks of no one else except her and Lugh. What I really like about Saba was that she was perfectly imperfect, she knows her mistakes and learns from them. She also shows a lot of growth through out the story, and becomes more mature and understanding.
Did I forget to mention Jack? Ohh sweet, arrogant Jack. I loved him, he was a perfect match for Saba he knew how to roll with her punches and fire some right back!
Overall Blood Red Road was a fantastic read, it was full of adventure and action. I loved how Lugh played the damsel in distress. While Saba was the kick butt heroine. But best of all I actually felt a connect to the characters. They were wholesome and realistic. I cant wait to see what Moira Young has in store for us next.
